How to measure

it may be necessary to use a newel post as shown instead of installing Railing directly into house depending on the composition of the area where thr railing would mount into thr house

Always measure to the edge, rounding up to the nearest foot for ordering. For example, if your measurement is 68" you would order a 6 foot section and cut it to fit, removing an equal amount from both ends

For stairs:
Measaure from the edge of the bottom step to edge of top step as shown
